I am very passionate about helping people in the community, attending monthly homeless haircuts, and helping people overseas to make a living.
I was privileged to have been part of three overseas Projects traveling to Indonesia, helping people make a living and learn a profession.
"WE'RE JUST HAIRDRESSERS AND WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES"
A Sunshine Coast hairdresser is planning to return to Indonesia in September to continue teaching communities a skill to help make them more self-sufficient.
Natalie Hazelden, volunteers with the global charity "Hair Aid", and has taught the skill for 27 years.
"Not just give them a handout and feel sorry for them 'cos that doesn't give them the opportunity to earn money and be proud of themselves.
"Hairdressers don't get that much money and I have a family so I can't really handout money so I like to give my skills and my knowledge rather than money."
One of the locations she went to last year was a women's centre where women have been abandoned by their families.
She says at the end of the five-day workshop, the transformation was amazing.
"They actually opened up a hairdressing salon and had people on Friday afternoon after graduating ... they had paying clients coming in already so they can make a living.
"The only thing that I've heard that they need now is a sign so people know where they are."
She also taught people with disabilities at another facility, while other Hair Aid volunteers attended the Denpasar Dump where residents ordinarily earn a living collecting rubbish.
"So they actually opened up a hairdressing salon at the dump facility and at the end of the week people came in and got their hair cut for probably more money than they would earn collecting rubbish."
In Australia, Natalie's charity work includes free haircuts to the homeless and disadvantaged at Caloundra and Brisbane.
She's fundraising over the next few months to help cover the cost of returning to Indonesia.
